Add Markups to an Image

Modified on Wed, 23 Jul at 12:52 AM

The 'Feeds' module allows the users to add annotations in images with markups of different shapes, special notes, etc. This is useful, for example,

  • Marking rework zones after inspection
  • Indicating missing installations or incorrect placements
  • Tagging safety hazards
  • Tracking progress with visual confirmations
  • Clarifying design interpretation questions

By default, the markups made to an image from the 'Feeds' interface are visible to staff or workers who have access to the image.

To add a markup

  • Open the image file. If you haven't done so:
    • Open the management console for the project
    • Click the app launcher icon in the top-right , then select 'Field'
    • Click 'Feed' on the top and choose the desired category on the left.
    • Click on the image to open

If the image has any markups made earlier, it opens with the latest markup you created or shared with you.

  • Click at the top right to create an annotation:
  • Use the toolbar on the right to add different types of markup elements to the image.

The markup process is similar to how annotations are added on plan sheets, making it intuitive and consistent. For detailed guidance, refer to the help articles linked in the table below, which are shared with the Plans module.

-Pinpoint a location on the image. See Add a Location markup for more guidance
-Create length markups. The ruler tool provides the capability to measure any unknown distance between two points. It must first be calibrated according to the scale used in the drawing to ensure accurate measurements. Once calibrated for a sheet, you can utilize the ruler tool and the line and shape tools to make precise length and area markups directly on the sheet, adding detailed dimensions as needed. See Add Length Measurements for more guidance.
-Mark an area with a polygonal shape as required. This is useful to encircle an area with an irregular shape. You can select the color, drag, reshape, and position the item as per your needs.  See Create Polygonal markups for more guidance.
-Draw free-form/freehand shapes as markups. You can choose the line thickness and color for your markups. See Create a free-form/freehand markup for more guidance.
-Highlight specific portions of the image. See Highlight areas, dimensions, and notes for more guidance.
-Add a text markup. You can choose color and font size and enter your notes and comments to suit your needs. See Insert Text Notes for more guidance.
-Spotlight an area on the image with the cloud shape tool. You can select the color, resize, background fill, etc., as per your needs.  See Add a cloud markup for more guidance.
-Add a line or an arrow to point to a specific spot or item in the image. You can resize, rotate and position the line/arrow on any portion of the image. See Add Lines and Arrows for more guidance.
-Area markup with box, round/ellipse, and triangle shapes. Encircle an area or a spot on the image to highlight it. You can select the color, resize, rotate, drag, and position the item as per your needs. See Mark areas for more guidance.
-Attach location identifier icons to an image. See Mark Location Identifiers for more details.
-Fill tool - Choose the color and transparency for the background fill when making markings like square, circle, cloud, etc. See Setup stroke width and color for more guidance.
-Select the color and stroke width for your markup. Applies to all tools except the image markup tool. Also serves as the font size tool for the text tool. You can set the stroke width and color for the markups and set the font size for any text markup. See Setup stroke width and color for more guidance.

Each markup element you add is created as a layer over the image.

  • The layer editor at the left lets you view the layers and edit the currently created markup.
    • Click the layer button on the left to open the layer editor

  • Click on the label to change the name of the markup element as desired.
  • Use the eyeicon to show or hide the layer
  • Click the trashcanicon to remove an element added by mistake
  • Once done, click 'Save' on the top right to merge the layers and save it as a single markup.
