The polygon tool lets you mark an area with a non-standard shape on the plan drawing. This is useful for highlighting areas of interest with an irregular shape, which could not be bounded using a rectangle and circle shape markups.
- Easily adjust the shape and size of the shape to fit the area you want to cover.
- Customize the appearance by changing the stroke width, color, and fill.
If the sheet is calibrated for the drawing’s scale, the polygon markup automatically displays the length of each side and the total area covered, making it easy to measure irregular or non-standard shaped areas.
- If the plan includes a clear printed scale, Linarc detects and applies it automatically. An indicator confirms the applied scale when you open the sheet.
- If no scale is visible—or if the sheet contains drawings with different scales—you’ll need to perform a one-time manual calibration. See herefor steps.
Tip: Areas of regular shapes can be marked with rectangle and circle shapes. See Mark areas for more details.
To add a polygon shape markup
- Select the Polygon tool from the toolbar.
- Click on the drawing where you want the polygon to start.
- Define the shape by moving your mouse and clicking at each corner of the area you want to mark.
- Position the polygon by clicking and dragging it to the exact spot.
- Adjust the shape and size using the handles at the corners and sides to cover the area of interest accurately.

The markup is added with the color, stroke width, and fill, with default settings or as set in the Stroke and Fill tools. You can change them as required.
If the sheet is pre-calibrated or the drawing’s scale is specified, the polygon markup displays both side lengths and the total area.
To change the stroke color, width, and fill color
- Click on the markup to select it
- Click the 'Stroke' tool
- Choose the color from the palette
- Alternatively, use the color picker at the bottom right to choose a custom color.
- Size - Use the slider to set up the brush width for the markup
- Fill color:
- Click the 'Fill' tool
- Choose the color from the palette
- Alternatively, use the color picker at the bottom right to choose a custom color
- Opacity - Use the slider to set up the transparency of the color fill
Your selection takes effect on the currently selected markup and is auto-saved for your next markup tool.
The markup element is added as a layer to the 'Draft' group. It is shown in the layer editor on the left.
- Use the
icon to show or hide the layer - Click the
icon to remove an element added by mistake - Click the element label in the layer editor and edit it with a brief description of its purpose, if needed, to keep your elements organized.
- Go to the next tool if you want to add more markup elements
- Once you are done with the markup elements, save the layer group as a markup. See Publish Markups for more details.
