Master Project - Overview

The master project in Linarc serves as an encapsulating container for the collective management of several interconnected, interrelated, or sequential entities as sub-projects. As a typical application, you can use a master project:

  • As a strategic and organizational framework to manage consecutive phases of a construction venture;
  • For collective management of mutually related projects at different locations, and more.

The interdependent and sequential phases like the conception, design, pre-build, build, and close-out of a large-scale construction are managed by different types of people, like the sponsor/owner/developer, architects, general contractors, subcontractors, and more. The Master Project feature enables the top-level authority of the construction, like the owner or the sponsor, to create a project, add the individual phases as sub-projects, and assign them to the respective companies. Once assigned, these companies are invited to manage their allotted part of work.

The top-level authority manages the construction as a whole, as a portfolio management. The sub-projects, or the phases, are managed individually by the companies to which they are assigned. 

The master project can be beneficial to owners and project sponsors as they:

  • Provide a comprehensive view of their entire construction portfolio, allowing for centralized monitoring of progress, budgets, and timelines.
  • Align construction projects with long-term strategic goals and prioritize them.
  • Facilitate proactive risk assessment and management at the portfolio level, reducing setbacks and delays.
  • Real-time data and performance metrics to make informed decisions promptly, ensuring projects stay on track.
  • Enhance accountability by having separate project managers accountable for sub-projects within the master project.

Within the master project, the construction process gets organized by the division of it as sub-projects. For instance, the design phase is managed by the architect. In the build phase, several sub-projects can be devised and assigned to general contractor and sub-contractors as deemed. This hierarchical approach allows for a clear overview of the entire construction portfolio, ensuring seamless communication, tracking, and coordination throughout the various phases of the construction projects. Linarc simplifies the complex task of managing construction projects, enhancing efficiency and collaboration for all stakeholders involved.

The Master Project Interface

The Master Project Interface lets you manage and organize the entire construction portfolio, enabling seamless creation and integration of sub-projects for distinct phases.

To open the Master Project interface

  • Ensure that you are in the 'Portfolio' module. To return to the portfolio screen if you are already on a different screen
    • Click the app launcherand select 'Portfolio'

  • Click 'Master Project' on the left.

The 'Master Projects' screen shows the list of master projects in which you are a part.  


  • Project- The name of the master project. The project names are color-coded for easy identification.
  • Project Manager - The principal project manager of the master project. 
  • Project Start - The commencement date of the project.
  • Building Type - The classification of the construction, depending on its occupancy and use, whether it is residential, commercial, educational, etc.
  • Construction - Nature of the work, whether the building is newly constructed, renovated, remodeled, etc. 
  • Location - The address of the construction site.
  • Contact email - The contact email address for the principal project manager
  • Contact Number - The contact phone number for the principal project manager

Search and filter options

  • Use the 'Search' box at the top-left search and filter the entries using any of the values in part or full.
  • Click the icon at the top-right to select the columns to show or hide

  • Click the  icon to download the list of master projects as an Excel file

The Sub Projects Interface

  • Click on the name of a project to open the list of sub-projects.

  • Project- The name of the sub-project. The sub-project names are color-coded for easy identification. 
    • Click on the name of a project to open its project management console in the same browser tab
    • Alternatively, place your mouse on a project name and click on the expandicon to open its project management console on a new browser tab.
  • Project Manager - The principal project manager of the sub-project.
  • Job Id - Unique alpha-numeric identifier for the sub-project.  
  • Project Start - The commencement date of the sub-project.
  • Building Type - The classification of the building, depending on its occupancy and use, whether it is residential, commercial, educational, etc.
  • Company Role - The part of your company on the sub-project, whether it is the general or the subcontractor, and the category of the work undertaken by your company.
  • Construction - Nature of the work, whether the building is newly constructed, renovated, remodeled, etc. 
  • Location - The address of the construction site.
  • Contact Mail - The contact email address for the principal project manager 
  • Contact Number - The contact phone number for the principal project manager 

Search and filter options

  • Use the 'Search' box at the top-left search and filter the entries using any of the values in part or full.
  • Click the icon at the top-right to select the columns to show or hide  
  • Click the icon to download the list of subprojects as an Excel file
