Master Schedule - Overview

Modified on Mon, 19 May at 5:51 AM

The Master Schedule in Linarc is structured around the project's Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)—a hierarchical framework developed by the General Contractor (GC). This WBS serves as the foundation of the overall project schedule, detailing key components such as project phases, deliverables within each phase, and the work packages required to fulfill those deliverables. These work packages are assigned to subcontractors, while tasks directly performed by the GC are also defined within the same structure.

Methods for Creating the Master Schedule in Linarc

Linarc offers flexible approaches for manually building the master schedule within the Scheduler:

Direct Entry in Grid View:

  • Input schedule items line by line based on the WBS, setting up hierarchical levels, durations, timelines, and interdependencies as needed.

Graphical WBS Builder:

  • Visually create the WBS as a tree structure, import it into the grid view, and add leaf-level tasks and activities. Define durations, dependencies, and timelines as required.

You can also incorporate milestones, inspections, and checkpoints at relevant stages to enable effective tracking of progress across the project lifecycle.

Import from external scheduling software

  • If you’ve already developed and/or managing your schedule in tools like Microsoft Project, Oracle Primavera, Excel, or similar platforms, Linarc allows you to seamlessly import your master schedule for continued management, tracking, and collaboration.

Task Assignment and Execution Workflow

Once scheduled items are defined in the grid:

  • They can be assigned directly to the respective contractors.
  • Contractors receive their assignments through their Contractor Schedule screen, where they can break down the tasks into field-level activities and push them for execution.

Managing Change Orders

The GC can integrate approved change orders into the project schedule at any stage. Linarc automatically:

  • Assigns the change order tasks to the appropriate contractors,
  • Updates the progress tracking,
  • And appends the project budget with associated costs.

Progress Tracking and Real-Time Insights

Subcontractors report task progress and completion percentages through their respective Contractor Schedulers. These updates sync with the master schedule, providing the GC with real-time visibility into task status.

Linarc’s intelligent scheduling algorithms use these updates to:

  • Dynamically calculate key project metrics,
  • Drive automated reporting,
  • And deliver actionable insights through intuitive dashboards.
