Link your Personal GDrive Folder

Modified on Mon, 18 Aug at 6:46 AM

Google personal account holders can link a dedicated folder from their Google Drive to their Linarc company account. You can use an existing folder or create a new one, but it must be shared with drive-sync@linarc.io and granted 'Editor' access so Linarc can push project files into it. Once connected, the folder becomes available as an external drive for all projects.

After the initial setup and sync:

  • Linarc creates a dedicated subfolder for each project in the Google Drive folder
  • All project repository files are mirrored in the Google Drive folder.
  • Additions, deletions, and renaming are synchronized automatically.
  • Both uploaded and system-generated files (RFIs, Submittals, Change Orders, T&M tickets, etc.) are included.
  • Files can be shared internally or externally, based on folder permissions in Google Drive.

This article explains how to link a Google Drive folder to your Linarc company drive. For setup at the project level, see: Sync Project Files with Google Drive.

Pre-requsites:
Before you begin, make sure the following are in place:
  • A dedicated folder in your Google Drive for storing files from your Linarc projects. If you don’t already have one, create a new folder.
  • Share the folder with drive-sync@linarc.io, granting Editor (or higher) permissions.
  • Note down the Folder ID of this Google Drive folder. You’ll need it during setup. (See the Tip below on how to locate the Folder ID in Google Drive.)
Tip:
A Folder ID in Google Drive is the unique identifier that Google assigns to every folder you create. It’s part of the folder’s URL and is used by Linarc to locate and connect to that specific folder.
  • Navigate and open the folder from your Google Drive home page.
  • Note down the details from the URL:

To link your folder on Google Drive with your company account

  • Log in to your company admin console
  • Click 'Integrations' at the top

  • Click the 'Configure' button under Google Drive

Enter the following details:

  • Drive Type - Select 'MY_DRIVE' from the drop-down.
  • My Drive Folder ID- The folder ID of the folder on your Google drive that you want to set as your external drive. See the tip above to know more.
Reminder: Make sure the folder is shared with the dedicated Linarc user account drive-sync@linarc.io and assigned Editor (or higher) permissions. This access is required for Linarc to sync and push files from your project repositories into the folder. Once a folder is linked, it cannot be changed later.
  • Click the button to validate your details.

A confirmation is shown:

  • Verify the folder ID. If required, you an correct it at this stage too.
  • Click 'Confirm' to confirm your account preferences.

The system verifies whether it can access the folder. On successful verification, the folder is linked as external drive to your company.

Once your shared folder is linked to your company, it appears as an available external drive across all your projects.
