    Publish a task

      Article Summary

Linarc's cloud-based scheduler allows the general contractor and the subcontractors to create the project delivery plan collaboratively. The general contractor manages the WBS-based master schedule and assigns jobs and work items to the appropriate subcontractors and specialty contractors.

The contractors should publish the last tier items in each branch of the WBS tree structure to push them to the respective assignees. The published tasks are automatically pushed to the assignee's project schedule. The assignee can then hierarchically break down the assigned items into subtasks and activities. They can again assign and publish the last level items to themselves as field tasks. The published field tasks get pushed to the field for the field in-charge, like the foreman or superintendent, to pull them and start execution.

      General Contractor

This article explains how the GC can publish items assigned to an SC. The process is similar for the SC publishing the tasks to push to the field.

      • You can publish only the tasks that are already assigned to respective subcontractors or self-assigned. This excludes top-level tasks.
      • Tasks that are reserved for your company should be first assigned to your company before publishing.
      • If a parent-level task is published, all its children are published.
      • Once an item is published, you cannot further edit its details, add subtasks or reassign it to another contractor. But top-level tasks allow you to add subtasks, even after publishing all its children.

      To publish an item

      • Navigate to the schedule page of the project
      • Identify the row containing the schedule item you want to publish
      • Right-click on the row and choose 'Publish' from the options

Once the item gets published, the scheduler creates a dedicated group chat for the item, with the task name as the subject and the involved personnel as the participants.

      • Click the icon at the left of the item to chat with others regarding the task.

You can add more people, share files and images, etc., through the chat. See Chat and collaborate on a scheduled task for more details.

      Subcontractor

The subcontractor creates a contractor schedule by hierarchically splitting the tasks assigned to them by adding subtasks and activities. The last-level items can be added manually or by importing them from the estimates uploaded by them. The last-level tasks are pushed as field tasks to the foreman. The foreman receives the assigned tasks on their mobile app, pull the tasks tasks for execution depending on the field conditions, crew availability, etc., and reports the progress updates of the tasks on their daily reports. In order for the subcontractor project managers to push the field tasks, they have to assign the tasks to their company and then publish the tasks as explained above. To learn more about assigning tasks to your company, see Assign contractors.
