    Import Master Schedule

      Article Summary

You can create project schedules using your favorite third-party scheduling tools and import the schedule into your project in Linarc. The currently supported applications and file formats are:

      Oracle Primavera-XER
      Microsoft Project-MPP
      Microsoft Excel-XLSX
      Tip:

The Linarc scheduler also allows you to export the schedule from a project. You can download the schedule from a currently existing project and save it as a template. The template can be used for similar projects in the future. While exporting, you can choose the application and format. Once downloaded, you can open the file in the chosen application, edit the schedule as required, and save it in the native file format of the application. The edited file can be imported into a new project. See Export schedule to learn more about downloading the schedule from a project as a local file.

Microsoft Excel can be used if you export the schedule as a template from a different project to edit it and import it to a new project.

You can upload your schedule file directly from your local storage. Once uploaded and saved, you have the option to edit the schedule, like adding new parent-level tasks, adding subtasks, specifying/changing the start/end dates, dependencies, and more from the Linarc scheduler. Once you are happy with the schedule items, you can assign them to subcontractors and publish the tasks. You can also assign tasks that pertain to your self-performed work to your own company.

      To import schedule

      • Create a comprehensive project schedule using your favorite scheduler application and save it as a local file on your local/network drive
      • Open the project management console
      • Click 'Schedule' > 'Master Schedule' to open the master schedule of the project
      • Ensure that you are in the 'List' view
      • Click the 'Import' icon on the top right
      • Choose the format of the schedule file to upload

      The available options are:

        • Primavera - .xer file
        • Microsoft -   .mpp file
        • Custom .xlsx file
      • Click 'Attach File' and navigate to the file to upload in your local/network drive
      • Alternatively, drag and drop the file into the 'Attach File' box

The file starts getting uploaded. The time taken depends on the number of lines in the schedule and the file size. The scheduler imports the line items from the uploaded file, with their details like start/end dates, duration, dependencies, etc. Once completed, you can edit the schedule as required.
