    Create the Master Schedule

      Article Summary

The master schedule interface lets the general contractor create and manage a comprehensive schedule covering the whole project. The master schedule comprises all WBS elements like phases, deliverables, work packages, tasks, and activities at successive hierarchical levels. Each last-level item is defined with the duration, planned start/end dates, and dependencies so that the timelines of the parent items are auto-calculated.

Once added, you can assign the work packages and items to subcontractors of different trades and specialties. Linarc's integrated scheduler pushes the assigned items to the schedule module of the respective subcontractor so that each subcontractor receives the assigned items on their project management console.

Each subcontractor can then hierarchically break down each assigned item into subtasks and activities and create a contractor schedule. The subcontractor can then push the last level items to the field for execution. The in-built collaboration module allows you to have context-specific discussions on each task with the respective assignees.

You can create the master schedule for your project in two ways:

      • Importing your schedule created already on third-party scheduling tools like MS Project and Primavera. Also, you can export the schedule from an existing project as an Excel file. The Excel file can be used as a template for similar projects by importing the template to the new projects and editing it as required.
      • Manually creating your schedule directly on the Linarc scheduler by adding line-items one-by-one

This section explains creating a master schedule from scratch directly on the Linarc scheduler.

You can choose between two options for creating the master schedule:

Standard - Add items of various hierarchical levels to the WBS in the outline/list view. You can then define the parent-children relationship between the items by indenting them step-by-step as required. The WBS codes are assigned the items in the standard decimal multilevel numbering scheme.

Custom - Define a basic WBS template as an organizational chart, import it into your schedule, and define items at various levels of the hierarchy. You can also specify custom codes for the items. The items are assigned with the WBS codes following the order from the top level.
